What’s Up Wednesday – Week 4

This week I wanted to spotlight one of my favorite places in Cleveland–The West Side Market.  If you’re a Cleveland local, chances are that you’ve been there (probably a million times).  The West Side Market just expanded hours last year so they’re now open on Sundays which is really convenient.

A word of caution though: the market gets packed on weekends especially after around 11 am.  On Saturdays, the market opens at 7 AM.  I know that sounds really early, but it’s really dead that early in the morning and you can usually get some of the best quality produce/meats without waiting in a crowded line.

Some of my favorite counters to hit up are: Katie’s Fish, The Pork Chop Shop, Mediterra Bakehouse and Ohio City Pasta.  Now a days, you can find Ohio City pastas in most grocery stores, but they have a larger selection of their pastas as well as sauces at their West Side Market counter.  I always like stopping here just to see what new pastas or sauces they have since sometimes they do special seasonal offerings.  Mediterra Bakehouse has a great selection of artisan breads and rolls.  Their display looks great and the breads are even tastier than they look.

The Pork Chop Shop is one of my all time favorite stands.  They sell Ohio raised pork thats free of steroids and preservatives.  I love stopping here before our summer camping trips because they always have really awesome bacon flavors.  My favorites are the black peppered bacon or maple bacon flavors.  They also have a Great Lakes Christmas Ale bacon that they featured over the holidays.

Katie’s fish is also a really awesome stand.  I like to go here to go here anytime I’m planning on making seafood or shellfish.  Also, if you ever have a question about how to prepare a certain type of fish or shellfish, everyone that works there is really knowledgeable.   I stop here each Valentines day to pick up the scallops we make every year for dinner.

I can’t promise that all of these places will be open if you go on a Sunday, but I can promise that if you stop by any of these stands, you won’t be disappointed.  Happy exploring!

Welcome to Cooking in Cleveland! I want to share delicious, healthy and approachable recipes with you. I want to help highlight local Cleveland artisans and events and put a focus on using local foods!
  • While on the #Whole30 challenge, the unthinkable happened…I learned to LIKE cauliflower. I blame this recipe and some of the other stir fry dishes we made that used fresh cauliflower rice.

This dish is mostly #Whole30 compliant except for any additions you might make to this recipe such as #Sriracha for added heat or swapping soy sauce instead of the coconut aminos.

Check out the link in my bio and let me know what you think!
